Congratulations to my friend Denny Hough who won his first two Chicago Golden Gloves matches before dropping a close decision in his third bout at 178 lbs. Denny won his first bout by decision and scored a first round TKO in bout number two. All three fights were action packed and I'm glad I was able to attend, with my camera.
I shot the gloves many times as a student at Columbia College Chicago and as a professional sports photographer too. Shooting amateur boxing helped me create a good foundation and professional portfolio which eventually led to my career with HBO Boxing. I also competed in the golden gloves in 1993, losing by decision, which helped me become a better boxing photographer. Although my primary work is now as a corporate and wedding photographer, I still enjoy shooting sports, especially boxing.
